Following on from a successful project with Oxford Brookes University’s BSc students in the autumn of 2012, Landmark Information Group, the UK’s leading supplier of digital mapping, property and environmental risk information, is now supporting more than 30 MSc and MBA Real Estate students from the University’s Real Estate & Construction Department. They will be using the Promap digital map software to assist with the analysis of their development projects, all of which are hypothetical developments on actual sites in Oxford.
The Promap system allows students throughout the semester to access a complex database used by a wide range of property professionals – including surveyors, architects, developers, builders, engineers and other industry professionals.
Promap’s mapping comprises a variety of ‘layers’ supplied in a range of scales and levels of accuracy, including a scale of 1:1250. Historical maps can also be accessed through Promap, which will provide students with additional information about past usage and structures on any given piece of real estate.
Carole Ankers, Product Development Director at Landmark Information Group said, “Promap delivers instant access to Ordnance Survey mapping, allowing students at Oxford Brookes University to experience at first hand the accuracy with which property professionals are required to operate, and provides them with working knowledge of datasets used across the property sector before they embark on their careers. All MSc and MBA students will also receive a certificate to confirm that they have used the system during their degree course and passed the project, which can be used when seeking future employment.”
Nick French, Professor in Real Estate at Oxford Brookes University, added, “We always want our students to have as much practical experience as possible. It is important that they develop their skills and knowledge of systems used by property professionals, to help prepare them for a career after university.”
