As one of the main characters in the Dutch television-program ‘Stadium’, architect Erick van Egeraat has presented his vision for a new stadium venue and its value for the city of Rotterdam.

As one of the few internationally active Dutch architects, Erick van Egeraat combines both the experience and skill to design venues as urban planning. In Moscow his design for the new Dynamo stadium is currently in progress to host the 2018 FIFA world championship.

“To develop a stadium merely for football these days is not a viable option,” according to Erick van Egeraat. He envisions a new “Kuip” stadium that comprises a mixture of sport, retail and leisure. “This combination ensures an economic viability for the future,” Erick van Egeraat continues. “I envision a new venue which embraces the city and city-life and will become an accelerant for the city of Rotterdam.”

Erick van Egeraat’s vision embraces the historical values of the existing stadium to add a new layer. The new stadium becomes more then a sports arena, but a place for everyone to enjoy. Be it via events, relaxation or shopping. In this way on old Icon will transform into the main sports and entertainment center for Rotterdam.
